El Salvador
El Salvador is where Children's Cross sparked over twenty years ago, and the progress seen in this country is what keeps us moving forward, ever hopeful.
When we began operations here, one of our main services was an annual medical/dental mobile trip to the rural areas of the country, where entire communities would go years without receiving medical care. Our groups, and others like us, were the only chance many people would have of ever seeing a dentist or doctor. Now, twenty years later, health clinics dot the countryside, and we are able to focus on building specialty surgical units within a local hospital, promoting self-sufficiency to the point where we will eventually put ourselves out of a job - what an exciting prospect!
Our programs in El Salvador center around the pediatric charity hospital, Benjamin Bloom, located within the capital of San Salvador. It is here that, through the efforts of CCCI and the grace of God, the first open-heart surgery in the country of El Salvador took place. There is now a flourishing cardiac unit in the hospital, where every day two children are given new life at the hands of talented surgeons.
